Ah, BiMarriedBottom, JizzCola, Relaxer, I'm glad you got the joke! (Told this to a friend on the phone and there was a pause, followed by a loud "Oh, for fuck's sake!!"
Back after 3 weeks of vacationing in Europe: a cruise up the Rhine, Switzerland, and Austria. It's good to be home, though: glad to have the kitties around and sleep in my own bed.
2 different rivers, both rise in Switzerland. Rhone flows south and empties into the med. Rhine rises in Switzerland and flows north through germany and empties into the north sea.
@NaughtyKat Yes, the food was exceptional. I was *very* pleased upon returning that I did not gain weight, though I know I was up 5 pounds about a week in.
Spending the weekend cleaning masses of clutter from my office. Still working on taxes and paperwork. Drinking lots of coffee and trying to find stuff to watch on the computer in the background.
95% done with COVID, but the last bits keep hanging on. Pretty much over the tiredness, but the smell in the back of the nose and coughing are still here. Bleah. Nevertheless, mending... slowly
Mid-January: on the mend from Omicron. Kept me out of work for a week and then on light duty for another week. Week 3 and I'm 90-95%, but still coughing and having fits of tiredness.
BiMarriedBottom, I'm very pleased that you're COVID-free! I work at home, but I may have gotten it at a grocery store or the like, mask notwithstanding. But I'm still alive & feeling sorta okay.
Making a Puerto Rican pork roast (pernil) for dinn1er Sunday. Youngest spawn & her #1 squeeze are driving up for the week. Baking potato bread tonight. House is smelling lovely!
Made a boule of sourdough, an amazing potato bread (keeping the recipe in the perm file now), and a whole wheat/toasted oat banana bread this weekend. Kitchen & now the fridge are really clean. Cool.
I opened the 25# sack of dry pintos, instead: 3# are soaking now & a 4# chuck roast thawing. This aft, I'll start the serious prep (8 onions, tomatoes, etc.) and boil. Much chili for the freezer!
I should've thrown the beans in the pressure cooker to soften them further, so I have 3 gallons of great chili simmering on the stove still. In an hour, I'll turn it off and then pack for freezing.
Sold the old house for a fortune, unpacking the boxes in the new house. WALLOWING in the thrill of having vastly more storage than I know what to do with. I still have empty kitchen drawers & shelves!
After 25 years in a tiny suburban house we bought a very small farm. House is twice the size, huge garage, two barns. We have crap all over the place! How???
fyi, Melvin, that kind of pic can be posted in your blog and then you won't have to worry about someone flagging it.And, it can also be posted on NN's free photo hosting sire, Allombo
@LennyNatural, thank you VERY much! This is an area of NN that I need to learn more about. I'll dig into it. I greatly appreciate the advice. <he bows>
@QuietWACpl The house was close to 1M (a lotta bucks!) but interest rates are *SO* low that we're paying $400/month more than our current house at half that price. We got really lucky.
230 boxes left the house for a storage unit Thursday afternoon. My office is close to packed after 40 boxes. Another dozen to go, then furniture, cabinets, and desks. Posted a pic of the new kitchen.
Off to Steilacoom, which is 8 miles south of where I live now. Beautiful little place on the water with a ferry terminal. Tons of trees and hills. Generally yummy and very quiet. Downtown's quaint.
Packing. Packing, packing, packing! I'm up to 32 boxes so far in my office with another 15-20 to go. Having a crew come in to move these and the 150 boxes in the garage to storage so I have room.
Got the house! They've signed and it's official. 3500sqft. Mainfloor master, a huuuuuge kitchen, and a 16'x23' office for me with a kitchenette (so no spilling coffee on the carpet from upstairs).
May have a house lined up! Oral agreement on the contract, but the seller's in Mexico so no ink yet. Meanwhile, boxing things up to get ready. Lots of work.
Pretty impressed given the chaos the world's been in the past year. Having said that this is a good time for one who has assets to be trading. Good on you!
@001Bella Despite the chaos, life's been going on as best I can. Work's been a challenge and now we're quiet for a few weeks, so I have more time to Make Plans. <insert handrubbing and mwahahas here>
Work is wonderful! My writers, my boss, and I completed a 9mo project yesterday, roughly 12K person-hours. Top mgmt loves us to bits. Nolet gin and ginger and rhubarb this afternoon!
I decided I wanted to try some new gins. I bought five different gins this afternoon. I'm having Plymouth gin with ginger beer and rhubarb extract. It's pretty nice! Looking forward to Nolet tomorrow.
Shoot, I'm busier this weekend than I was at work all week... and it was a killer week at work, too! Shopping, cleaning, laundry, mailing my taxes, computer maintenance... lots of stuff!
Most truly, GBM! Hung up or folded 5 loads of laundry last night, went to Costco, Bevmo, and the grocery store, paid the mortgages, and cleaned the kitchen....
.... Having Italian sausages, eggs, and toast with many coffee, then off to Island to pick up mikes and recording equip from an old friend, then more cleaning and paperwork. Monday will be a relief. :
@001Bella: Yes, definitely! We're also doing mountains of writing at work that, ironically, have nothing to do with COVID-19. I love my job, thankfully, and I WFH anyway so it's all very good.
DAMN glad it's Friday. We got Tuesday off as well (the company believes in supporting its people) but my boss still said, "This is the longest short week we've ever had!" She's right. TTIFF!
