I have found out more about this which is quite sinister. Mindgeek (who own pornhub) run the verification system and sell to other sites at really high prices. Mindgeek have donated money to the Tory Government... Hmmmmmm

AVG is notoriously known for their free antivirus software, but they also produce many other security products, including a VPN.

Perhaps its naivety, but how exactly are authorities going to have time and resources let alone the will to police this type of restriction. Prohibition rarely if ever works, only serves to drive it underground imo

So this is a knee jerk reaction to some pressure group or another....

ISPs and others will be expected to make it work.

That said we have a similar system on our phones already... which catches me out every time I port to a new phone company... as its done on a customer account basis not by phone number.

i've just looked at the ageid website, they don't charge personal users for the service so you get verified by them and then you have access to any sites that use their verification system.

They've been operating in Germany for the last 3 years.

The government's much heralded porn "block" has been delayed once again.

Jim Killock from the Open Rights Group says the delays are due to serious concerns about privacy and data collection.

"When they consulted about the shape of age verification last summer they were surprised to find that nearly everyone who wrote back to them in that consultation said this was a privacy disaster and they need to make sure people's data doesn't get leaked out.

"Because if it does it could be that people are outed, have their relationships break down, their careers could be damaged, even for looking at legal material".
