Thursday, October 5, 2006, 7:59:27 PM- Cation: may cause drowsiness
Have you seen ads on TV for prescription medications? In the US, drug companies advertise their newest and most profitable products on TV in pretty much the same manner that beer and automobliles are hawked. However, the government makes them tell you the possible side effects in the ad. As I was making breakfast this morning I had the TV on and an ad for a prescription sleep medication came on. After the rosy description of all the good things this med will do, came the required fine print; the possible side effects. "you should use caution as this medication may cause drowsiness" they said. I have heard this ad a million times and it finally hit me, like a ton of bricks. A sleep med IS SUPPOSED to cause drowsiness!!! That is why it's a sleep med! Duh!!! Is drowsiness a desired result or a side effect? It's no wonder I go through life in a muddled daze!

Thursday, October 5, 2006, 4:22:51 AM- Rain part 2
The utility crew came by today to cut the tree out of the power lines. As a result, me and my neighbors were without power for 8 hours.

The willow is still there, but a lot less of it. It's an old tree that has been losing large branches for some time, so this was just a matter of time.

And, unfortunatly, the water in the garden is not deep enough for swimming and the temps are not warm enough for skinny dipping.

"the street I live on is tree-lined as well, but the city has not trimmed them in over 8 years. Suddenly this year two trees started braking apart under their own weight. Teh city comes to clean up the broken branches - yet still refuses to do a complete trimming. It's sad to see these majestic old trees being so neglected and it will only get worse once the rain comes down and the leaves get wet and heavy ;("

Wednesday, October 4, 2006, 5:57:54 AM- Rain rain rain
We got about 5 inches of rain last night. So much that it flooded my veggie garden. This is probably the end for the veggies this year.

If the utility lines look low it's because a good chunk of the neighbor's willow tree is sitting on them.

Tuesday, October 3, 2006, 5:39:56 PM- Needs vs wants
I need to make a loaf of bread, I need to mow the lawn. But instead, I am painting my Holloween pumpkin (not to mention the fact I am on NN, there is no telling when I will be able to pull myself away).

Friday, September 29, 2006, 9:25:01 PM- Happy Birthday
My mother in law is 92 today. She still lives alone but she doesn't get around very well and can't do most things for herself anymore. Somebody always comes over during the day to check on her and someone makes meals for her and they take turns spending the night there. The kids are having a turkey dinner for her today. I live two states away, so I really don't help out but I do bake cookies for her every now and then. I baked 2 batches of cookies Sunday and sent them UPS and they arrived Tuesday. Most of them are gone now but there will be a cake there today.

Happy birthday Ma.

Thursday, September 28, 2006, 8:31:02 PM- What would you do? part 2
What I did.

I informed the buyer that I had no need for the lens as I have already bought a replacement for it. I suggested he sell it and gave him a link to an ebay auction that closed yesterday in which that lens sold for substantially more than I charged him. He replied and thanked me for the ebay link and said it wasn't my fault, that he should have researched it further than he did.

Wednesday, September 27, 2006, 2:42:23 PM- What would you do?
I recently sold a camera lens on the internet, from a photo web site. The guy who bought it is not satisfied with it, he says it's a "little soft". The condition of the lens is like new and it works the way it did when it came out of the box. The lens is somewhat soft, that is the reason why I decided to replace it. The lens I replaced it with is sharper but it cost almost 3 times what that lens cost. When it comes to lenses you pretty much get what you pay for and pay for what you get. Now he is asking me to take the lens back. The lens is not defective, he simply is not satisfied with it. What would you do?

Wednesday, September 20, 2006, 7:48:56 PM- Solving problems, 101
(a) Read the f*cking instructions
(b) Install the drivers
(c) Have a beer while savoring the victory

Thank you Juicy for your sage advice!

The old puter can now copy music and data from a cd, play the music back and play a dvd. Still can't resolve the problem of getting the cd burner to work, but that was a problem i had before so it's probably a defect in the hardware.
