There's a saying: the best camera is the one you have (with you). There's a lot more to a compelling capture than its technical merits. (Don't venture into any photography forum. :P)

So true! People ask me all the time "what kind of camera do you use, it takes such great pictures." Ha! They forget the part where I am telling that camera what to do. NTM the part about composition, it has nothing to do with your equipment. Don't get me wrong, I would love to upgrade and hope you don't judge when I do ;) However you are so right with respect to the "it's not what you have, but how you use it." :)

I agree with both of you! The problem with a still image is how little appreciation the audience has, of what went into making it... sometimes the simplest shots require a huge amount of setting up, and the final shot is one of maybe 200 taken in one session. Almost any camera today can produce usable results, the skill is in getting to know the camera enough to make it an extension of your visual brain... not as simple as it sounds, but just takes a lot of practice. I've owned cameras that cost more than a compact car, but didn't find them any more rewarding than others costing just a tenth the price...
