The "your sex life" thing discussed that I filled out in the last blog asked about penis size. That always begs the question "measured how?". I decided to write this separate from that.

I was doing some research a few days ago that was not really related strongly to penis/ vagina size, but in which those were discussed. (No, I was not researching the Sun, Einstein and Relativity, or Properties of Materials that day.) I found that there is now a relatively strong consensus of how to measure penis size, which I know is a relatively new development since about 15 years ago that was definitely not true. (Ah- science advances on so many important fronts it is hard to keep up!)

Preferably someone else should do the measuring and recording. For some reason the results tend to be more accurate (as well as being lower numerically) when someone else is measuring. hmmmm...

Penis Length is to be measured from Base to Tip along the top surface when STANDING up, and penis parallel to the ground! Apparently this makes a difference. It is also slightly more accurate/ consistent if chemical means are used to achieve the erection. (Interesting, that)

Girth, or circumference, is to be measured at the base, in the middle, and just behind the head, or "glans". Those three measurements are simply averaged.

There is a small variation from erection to erection, so it is most accurate to measure more than once, and take the average.

There are "grower"s and "shower"s and the size of a flaccid penis is not strongly related to an erect penis!

I must beg forgiveness since to this time I measured lying down, so the details of my size measurements are currently somewhat incorrect. I need a good opportunity to remeasure. A willing partner (female, of course) would be welcome in this endeavor, and more importantly, of course, lead to greater scientific accuracy.

I was surprised that WikiPedia actually had a very good article right now that details penis size and measurement very much in accord with the research papers I was reading. I link it below for those interested. It has a lot more in it.

So, according to research, half of the Peni are 4.75"(12cm) in girth or smaller and only a couple percent are 6"(15cm) or larger.

These Wikipedia graphs are from data of LifeStyles condom manufacturer (who actually has a vested interest in the accuracy of the data) however it is ADMITTED that their sample is quite likely to be biased to be LARGER than typical men due to the way it was selected. Quite possibly, the graphed length could be as much as one FULL standard deviation larger than a true average, which may be more like 5.1" - - -

There is no data available in that article, and I didn't spend a lot of time looking for it, to analyze the accuracy of the girth, though on the basis of psychology, I will speculate very strong suspicion that the graphed girth is probably somewhat larger than true average, but not as strongly biased - I would guess it is more nearly biased a half standard deviation larger.
