And, if you must start bitching about someone, or something, we only want to see it in the "Bitching" area!

It seems that the use of aliases on the forum is becoming commonplace, and is typically used by a minority of members for 'evil'.

I think we have all tolerated this long enough, and so I have started a new thread on the forum, where I will be exposing the aliases used by these members being disruptive:

It's NOT fair to say that nothing is heard!

All emails, PMs sent to NN do get read (eventually). They are not ignored.

The main problem is time. We do not always have time to answer all messages, but they ARE read. We do have other jobs and family lives as well (surprised?)

We do not have the time to examine every single thread and the replies posted on them.

Why don't we have time? What do we spend our time doing?

Neither of us (NN and NN-J) work full time on the site. But I now spend a significant part of my day on NN work. I'd like the technical development of the site to come first, but there is a LOT of adminstrative work too, and this usually needs to be done first . We receive hundreds of messages daily. From the simple, I can't figure out how to join, to I can't activate my account, I've lost my password, I can't see a video, I can't see my pics, to things like, I want to change my member name, can you delete this pic for me, I've sent all these PMs to people, why has nobody replied?, so and so sent me a nasty PM please ban them, how can I join using a money order, change the description on the link to my site, why do I keep getting logged out, why is the site running so slow, etc...

Beyond all the adminstrative work, we are continuously working on various aspects to the site. Many of the improvements are designed to help reduce some of the adminstration, so that we get more time for further development.

Currently we are in the middle of changing all the session (login) management for the site so that it works better across multiple servers. This is a big job, and is taking longer than we had hoped, but will be worth it, as we'll be able to easily add new servers to improve performance on the site as it grows further. As soon as this is complete, we'll be adding two new servers to further improve site performance.

As far as the problem with JJ goes, we are taking action. We do cancel the accounts created. We do remove various posts on the notice board and forum. We do not enjoy having to waste our time doing this, and if there was a quick or easy solution we would have taken it.

We have examined IP addresses used by JJ and her aliases. It's not nearly as simple as you may think. It's not a fixed IP. It's not even an IP from a class C (256 addresses) or class B (65534 addresses) range. It's addresses from a variety of class B ranges, so that's hundreds of thousands of addresses involved, and yes, there are other members that are using these addresses too. So what do we do?

Well, don't worry! We have lots of creative ideas, and we have some plans that we will implement. We just want to get this other work out of the way, then we'll put them in place.

Just be patient for the next week or two, by which time we should have something in place that will significantly reduce the size of the problem. Of course it is too much to expect we can ever totally get rid of the problem, but I hope then the problem gets less attention.

I know a lot of things can't be ignored, but I do think if this is ignored it will go away. It does get way too much attention given to it. People like JJ are like children. It's like a game for them. Ignore it, and it'll not be any fun for them and they'll go some where else for their fun. Of course, now that they read this, they'll try a little harder...

I don't think moderation is the answer to this problem as many of you would suggest. Quick removal of their posts just seems to motivate them to add more of them more quickly, so they get more notice... in much the same way as the replies incite them as well. Leaving the site publically is also another way that you let them think that they are winning - and will just further motivate them to their 'cause' what ever it is.

Ignoring their posts is the best way that NN members can solve this problem themselves. If you need to have a whinge about it, then keep it private, send NN (or myself) a PM. Don't worry, we are always doing our bit as best we can, it's just that we usually don't have time to let you know about it all.

Well, there's another hour gone (and it is the weekend - it should be my time now)... you'll have to wait a little longer until the other things get done, but I think maybe it was worth it...
