Wow! I'm exhausted but it's totally in a good way. The shop was really hopping all day long. We didn't even have time to grab a bite of food til around 3. I cannot believe how the time flew by. The first healthy deposit from cash sales has been put into the bank and I'm feeling damn good about it. Each day brings a few new faces and several others who have already become "regulars." Exuberantly, HP

Yeah...so... Mom's 81st birthday went relatively well. We took her to a Japanese steakhouse and she enjoyed all the goings-on and was grinning through the entire meal. Only real glitch was when she got pissy that we thought she was 81. She insisted she was 71. Uh... no, mom. 81. Do the math. She couldn't figure out how she'd lost 10 years. I told her it was her wild lifestyle. That made her smile and the moment passed. Overall, it was a pretty good day for her. Whew! HP

Well, Mom turns 81 today. Back in December when she was hospitalized, I truly didn't think she'd last this long. She's one tough old broad. The Alzheimer's continues to progress. Her diabetes continues to become more difficult to manage. Her personality continues to change and she continues to withdraw from life more with each passing week. BUT... she's still with us and has times now and then when she's here with us in the moment. I'll take what I can get. Regardless of how hard some days are to get through, she's still my mommy and I love her. Bittersweet smiles, HP

Well, that wasn't nearly as miserable as anticipated...once the Novocain wore off and I wasn't worried about chewing the inside of my mouth off, that is. In other news, it's been raining on and off every day for the last week. Nothing major, just spring showers. All the flowers that I'd planted a few weeks back are loving the heck out of it and growing like mad. Also, all the seeds I'd scattered have finally sprouted. Too bad I didn't save the packaging cuz I can't remember what the heck I put out there. Oops. Oh well, it'll be a bunch of nice surprises in a month or so. lol HP

Passing thru Amish country this morning, Poohbare got all excited when he saw a particular little shop was open. He made a U-turn and pulled into the parking lot and practically dragged me inside. Next thing I know he's piling this and that on the counter with the glee of a young child. Gotta say, the meats, cheeses and candies are DAMN good. *burp*

Well, we're off for 36 hours on a quick buying trip. I'm leaving the spawn in charge of things at home armed with money and car keys. God help us all. D:

We usually close the shop at 5 p.m., but stayed open last night a bit later. Shortly after 4, a woman came in with her three kids, all under the age of 8. Very sweet kids, well behaved and all interested in what was in the showcases. The oldest was the child that popped in with his dad last Sunday. He spent a long time looking things over carefully and asking questions before selecting his first purchase. His brother and sister also asked questions and made purchases, but they don't have the intense interest of the oldest boy. Before leaving, the older one asked Poohbare if we could set something aside for him to buy later. He watched carefully as Pooh put it in a paper bag, stapled it shut, wrote the boy's name on it and placed it in the safe. THIS is what the shop is really about - the future collectors. Yes, of course it's also about turning a profit, but seeing a kid's eyes light up ... yeah, that somehow holds more value. HP
