Well you have to give this to the metric system, there is a logic to it: 100 centimetres in a meter, 1000 meters in a kilometer. It's easy to remember. How many people know by heart the number of feet in a mile? Sounds like it was randomly decided two hundred years ago by a drunk mathematician. 5280! 😛

A metre measures three feet three, it's longer than a yard you see.
A litre of water's a pint and three quarters.
Two and a quarter pounds of jam weighs about a kilogram.
