I can still remember the moment I found out. And I probably will for the rest of my life.

I was sitting in the office when a reporter called me on the phone. Working in public relations this wasn't unusual, but the next thing she said caught me off guard.

"I'd like to ask you about Shamus."

Shamus, why Shamus - was running through my head - but she answered it all to quickly. "You knew that he was killed this past weekend, didn't you?"

Umm. No I actually didn't. You have to stop for a second and regain your composure ... and try to say something semi-intelligent to this reporter. I stumbled through the interview, and called it a day.

Shamus, a staff sargent in the U.S. Army, gave his life for us on June 28, 2005. Shamus and I were classmates and when you only have about 45 kids in your entire class it is hard to not be close friends with people. Shamus and I were odd friends. He was always one of the shortest in the class, I was always one of the biggest. He played junior high basketball, but cars were really his thing. I was always involved in sports somehow, and could barely change the oil in my cars. But we always had a friendship tha allowed for us to just get along.

After graduation, Shamus headed off the Army and I got busy with college and our lives spread out. But our parents always kept us abreast of what each other was doing. Of course, mine was pretty easy to share; but when your son is in the special forces there are a lot of things that you don't know.

So on this Veterans' Day, I send out this special note to my fallen friend and brother.

Shamus, we miss you and thank you for all that you did for us during your too short time on this planet.

Okay, so I'm a big guy. I've always like having bigger girls with me. Nothing personal, but if I had a size 0 -- and I rolled over in bed she'd break. Not my idea of fun.

So stumbled on this site ([url]http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/Fat[/url]) and it really pissed me off.

The tone is just all wrong and this guy doens't have the balls to identify himself. You have to be PC about everything now, but it's still okay to make fun of fat people and lefties.

It has been a long week. The wife is sick, so I've been playing waiter. Now she's feeling better and the stress of our sexless existence is building again. Looks like we are heading for another fight about this...

Usually pretty predictable, I make a smart-ass comment about sex and the tension starts to build. And after a couple weeks we have a blow-up about how unsupportive I am of her "needs".

Of course this time, I was honest. We are talking about me going to bed earlier -- and I admitted that I can go to bed when she's awake, because it causes issues between us. Yeah, that went over well.

Oh well, can't do anything about it now.

I have been in a funk lately. My marriage has become a prison, I'm in a new job that requires a lot of footwork before you get to pay day and my wife is using it against me as I build my career, and I'm struggling to keep my positive attitude.

Sorry, but Calista Flockhart is in no way shape or form the image of the girl next door. Maybe the 10-year-old boy next door, but that ain't sexy.

I'm a pretty "well-rounded" guy. Don't really get inot the idea of selling "sex" -- never been to a strip joint or solicited a prostitute. And I'm always a little embarrased about going to Hooters.

Don't shoot the messenger, but I don't get the whole fascination with this place. The food is average at best and I've been to Hooters in Columbus, Daytona Beach, Indianapolis, and this past weekend in Concord, N.C. And all of them, the woman were nice and cute, but none of them sold the bill enough for this cult that has developed around the franchise. We went this weekend because the other guy really wanted to go. The waitress was cute - and very tired - but she wasn't any better looking than the server at Razzoo's the night before.

Now real hooters, that something that always lives up to billing!
