What's your personal speed records?
Not wanting any anti-social street drag racing rubbish that puts others in danger.

If you've done it, what's your top land speed records?

I know some girls and huys who get horny from this. Yes I am one.

Mine...

Bike...
1983 Kawasaki GPZ750 Turbo - 260kph. Tunnel vision, this thing was fast but scary!
2005 BMW R1100R - 170kph. This is my usual ride. I bottled out, would've gone quicker, but this basic tourer surprised me on how quick it got up in a short distance. Might have another shot at it one day.

Car...
1976 LX Torana with an old school mod' V8 253 - 190kph. A classic, noisy but loveable xxxxx.
Alan Jones Komatsu/EL Falcon - Oran Park as a Passenger - 250kph. Tried my hardest to get a drive, this thing was a rampant mad arse xxxxx.

Legally....ran an 11.93 @ 115 mph (185 km/h) on a quarter mile dragstrip. The car was a 1990 Ford Mustang GT 5.0.

Illegally...140 mph (225 km/h) in the same car on a deserted stretch of interstate. May have been faster...the speedometer only read to 140.

In someone elses car....185 mph (297 km/h) in a German spec Porsche 930 Turbo...had to slow down for a curve blushing

Driver- 180mph in a 1971 Ford Mustang with a 460 wedged in. w00t
No, it wasn't street legal. devil devil And no, I wasn't on a track either. tongue

Passenger- 185 in a 2010 Dodge Charger, cousin driving.

On two wheels- 185 mph on a Ninja. A friend's had it for sale and I was test driving it.

I got through all the gears, looked down and saw my speed, let out of it and slowed down. I turned around and took it back and parked it. I'd kill myself with one of those thing.

LOL LOL

LOL, well certainly not breaking any land speed records with this one, but you need to appreciate it for what it is.

F250 CrewCab 4x4. 39 inch, BFG's, 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel. Im guessing I hit around 160-170km/h. I cant get an accurate reading, as the speedo is off by about 20 km/h with the over sized tires... and its one of those tricky things that the faster you go .. the more its off. My speedo was edging over 140 ... and still climbing.

Not too shabby for a 10,000lbs brick (that stands over 7.5 feet tall) trying to fly through a wind tunnel LOL

DC - I'm going to have to call your bluff on 185 mph in the 71 stang. One of the fastest top speeds recorded from a mustang (and there is debate over this) is the 1966 Shelby GT500 SuperSnake. This thing had the potent 427 sohc side oiler motor in it, that was built for the gt-40. it was recorded to hit speeds of a little over 150 mph. The biggest prob with the mustang, is it was never built for top end speed, but rather for low end grunt and getting it to about 120 mph as fast as possible.

There are very few cars that can hit top speeds of 180 mph, even today...and certainly not on an interstate. It takes a mass amount of power, aerodynamics and properly tuned suspension to get a car over the 160 mph speed.

At a biker rally many years ago, i got up to 56mph in a bread basket towed behind a land rover across a field. The cows had been cleared out for the rally.
I was the fastest of the day and won a case of beer for my troubles, which helped get rid of the taste of the cow shit that had flung up through the holes.
The original plan was to be towed in a cast iron bath, but that idea was dropped when the first person soon found out how quick cast iron heats up with the friction LOL

hmmmm interesting subject, lets see 130 mph on a xr 900 harley right before i got into a turn, at the track! on the street i got a 72 shovelhead that was punched and stroked to 88 cubic inches, 150 mph. in a car a 1969 chevelle e.t. 8.23, 158 mph.

on the street the fastest i've ever been in a car was a 1969 dodge dart with a 340 six pac in it was 160 mph thats what the speedo said anyway

OK, I had to call my cousin to confirm, it was his '71 Mustang and it was a long time ago.

I was 17 at the time and the location was a west Texas highway. He was living near Eldorado TX at the time. He said the '71 was a 460 bored .30 over, running two Holley carbs (750's he thought). I know he burned high octane and got like 3 or 4 mpg out of it.

Top speed he got was 185 according to the digital speedo he added on. I'm not a gear head, so I couldn't tell you what gears he had in it and he didn't remember.

He got the speed bug young and wanted to build a 200mph car, and that was one attempt. He's nearly fifty five now, and says he's lost that goal, LMAO. Going fast just doesn't have the appeal it used too.

Kockshots, I'm not a big one for bikes, so I don't know what size Ninja it was, and I don't know if it was a stock bike or anything about it. I just know when I looked down and saw the speedo I about shit myself.

As for the Dodge, I know its chipped, and has a Hemi in it. Top speed I'm not sure on, but that was what the speedo read. tongue I know I was impressed with the muscle that thing has. Nice car, and I'm not a Dodge fan. thumbup1

OH, and LR, my brother has a F250 2WD with the 7.3 (chipped) and that thing is scary fast. All kind of pulling power on the highway but it's helpless in mud. The heavy front end just sinks in and your screwed. It's his work truck and he pulls construction trailers with it, and a large fifth wheel camper. That xxxxx doesn't even know the trailer is back there. thumbup1 thumbup1

copper - being 17 at the time was probably all you had to say to ruin the validity of the 185mph mustang statement, theres just no way, sorry, like someone mentioned, modern supercars have a hard time hitting 185 mph.. youre talking about a big heavy old mustang with horrible suspension/aerodynamics, etc etc etc.. on a public road non the less!!!. cmon...i think most would agree his digital speedo was just a *little off* LOL

for someone admits he knows nothing about bikes, that sure took some balls to somehow get a ninja up to 185mph, once again, on a public road..LOL! if you knew what you were saying, before you said it, you would realize most crotch rockets are completely incapable of reaching that speed, with the exception of a VERY limited few, which would only be able to reaach such a speed given the road surface is perfect and there are no cross winds, etc...(an experienced rider might help as well) to say you did this on a test drive, on public roads, just goes to ruin your credibility with any other outlandish shit you post on these forums! it would be hard to take anything you say seriously, after reading some of this stuff..

now, the funniest out of the 3, to me, and most others reading, is probably the 185 mph dodge charger... you realize the SRT-8 (assuming this is the srt 8 (6.1L) you are talking about!? i wouldnt be surprised if this was the 5.7 you were in though..either way it makes no difference, neither are capable of anywhere close to your claims), without passengers, weighs about 4200 lbs! thats a HUGE , heavy car..also, you talk about a computer chip in your posts like its a shot of nitrous or a twin turbo setup.. there is no way in hell you did anywhere CLOSE to 185 mph in the dodge with 2 passengers, the thing weighs close to 5k lbs with 2 people and a full tank of gas..... those cars (the srt eek would struggle to hit 150-160 if all conditions were perfect. stop the bs, "thats what the speedometer said".. same line from the mustang, and the bike.. lol

the f250 with the old 7.3 ('chipped' of course, ) - are slow as balls. he better have done alot more than "chip" it, for you to say its "scary fast", and i hope he spent some money on the auto trans before it blew up - those 7.3 motors are awesome workhorses that make tons of low end torque, but they have never been "fast" like the newer diesels, the 6 liter they replaced it with (although a POS) would blow the doors off a 7.3 in a "race" , but of course the 7.3 is just a better motor, its a diesel truck, not a sports car after all.,
it was helpless in mud because, like you said, its 2wd!!! lol..a locking rear or a limited slip will do wonders for a 2wd truck, and are really a necessity on a 4wd truck to be at all competent off road. go on youtube and watch a 4wd pickup truck with an open rear dif try to climb one of those man-made slippy hill courses , they are useless
they (the 7.3 super duties)are aweosme trucks and the 7.3 is an awesome motor, but saying a truck is useless in the mud when its 2wd (with probably an open rear dif on top of it) is as dumb as saying you did 185 in the dodge charger with 2 people in it.

also, its funny how you took 3 totally different vehicles, a crotch rocket, an old mustang, and a 4200+lb 4 door sedan, and got them all to do within 5mph of eahochter!
forgive me, but youre so full of shit its coming out your ears man... this only goes to show how full of shit you must be in most your other posts around the forums..i know its just cars we are talking about here, but anyone who could make up such ridiculous shit about a simple subject like "how fast have you gone".. what kind of bs is that same person capable of making up in other aspects of their lives? confused

"cool story though bro" tongue

Lol. Kockshots I agree with almost everything you have said except one.... the 7.3 ain't as slow as you might expect. Granted, you gotta really get that turbo to spool, but once it dies it gets going pretty good. The 6.0 was actually a very good motor... Just had problems with the injectors, but once that was sorted out, it was just as good as the 7.3..... It just couldn't get past the shit reputation that it had recieved. It certainly did have more ponies under the good though ... And the turbo spooled a lot faster too.

Now, my 7.3 is no rocket ... But I have yet to be walked away on by a late model cumapart. Mind you I'm still on stock 3:73 gears with tall tires, so on the hwy it's gotz legs. Not all that great fir towing heavy loads though. Anything under 5000 no prob, over that .... Need to drop the gearing for sure.

hmmmmm well here's the low down on that 1969 chevelle, motor first, 427 cu clay smith bump stick 540@.050 lift, kieth black pistons, a fordged steel crank with fordged rods, edelbrock torker yes they made them for a big block chevy with a holly 110 dominator carb, doug nash 5 speed gear box and a ford nine inch rear end with 4.88 gears, i could do that et all day at the strip, the mph would vary, so i do build and race very often, as far as coppers claim i've seen a friend take a zo6 vette and reprogram the comptor and drop his et by tow seconds and that was with a mild tune, so there ya have it if ya don't race you'll have no idea what a car or a bike is capable of untill ya do it! nuf said! beer beer

Haps, my cousin's oldest has gotten bit by the speed bug and he's in the process of redoing a Galaxy for the track.

He's got a big block Ford for it, which he's totally rebuilding. Since he dropped a valve head into a cylinder last year on his old motor (he was running stock class at the time I think) he's looking to go bigger and badder.

BTW, if you want to ruin a motor, block, crank and all, drop a valve head into a cylinder edge wise at high RPM. scared scared scared

When they pulled the pan he said pieces fell everywhere. crying crying crying

Busted the rod off, which beat the hell out of the cylinder walls, cracked the crank shaft and generally made a mess. Cracked the head too, when the piston tried to drive the valve head through it. thumbdown thumbdown

Roller, I've seen some shade tree mechanics put together stuff that is pretty amazing. All it takes is some mechancal ability and NO FEAR. w00t Hell, NASCAR got started by guys doing stuff in their garages the big boys said couldn't be done.

copper, we've had catastrophic failure like that before. blushing one guy I know dropped a valve in his BBF...busted the piston, bent the connecting rod and embedded the valve in the head w00t

I've had the crank snout snap at 7000 RPM...balancer and crank pulleys flew everywhere scared

another friend snapped his crankshaft in the middle...it ran long enough to drive it back on the trailer thumbup

best one was our nitrous experiment....how much gas can a stock 5.0 handle devil

...seems that with a 250 HP shot of nitrous, the block tends to split down the middle. only thing holding it together was the intake, the main bearing caps and the bellhousing LOL

I ran my old car for years at the track with a 200 HP shot of gas...in 4 years I may have burned 2 spark plugs.

hell, the day I started to swap in my "built" engine, I drove the car to the shop. we ended up using my old motor as a base for someone else's car...and it looked fine when we tore it down thumbup1
