I am an Austrian language teacher who likes to improve her English and enjoys writing, so that's why I do this blog here. And there are so many lovely people I have met.

Tuesday, September 20, 2005, 7:08:12 PM- The Key to Dreams
This is the name of an arts exhibition I visited today. A great collection of pictures by the surrealist René Magritte in a wonderful museum at Riehen, Switzerland. I am sure everyone is familiar with one or the other picture by the artist - if you have seen them once, you will hardly forget them again. I love surrealist paintings a lot - they seem so much like our lives. Every incident is easily to explain, every feeling comes straight from the heart - but its proportion that makes life so difficult to fathom. Like the surrealist artist who does not create new things, but puts the well known into unusual relationships.

Monday, September 19, 2005, 6:28:13 PM- Venice
To begin my sabbatical, when people started lessons again, I had special plans: I cycled from here to Venice and back, together with two friends, 800 miles all in all in a little more than two weeks. That was such a lovely trip - we did about 60 miles a day which gave us enough time for lavish meals in the evenings and plenty of red wine. In Venice it rained for two days, it was when large parts of middle Europe were flooded, but we were not affected because we had crossed the alps a few days before. I felt quite fit and all went well - just my bottom hurt. I should have taken someone along to care for it in the evening when the daily ride was over and fun could begin. Well, maybe there might be some volunteers next time. If you feel up to the task, you could apply ....

Getting up and I have nothing to do - I enjoy my sabbatical so much. It's ever such a great change to my ordinary routine that my heart leaps. I go biking, hiking, travelling to various places. I will spend six weeks abroad. Of course there is a project I have to do - a study of postcolonial literature, but because this means reading books and writing comments on them, it's lovely work. Today I will do some reading, and my study needs tidying a little, and in the evening I have invited a friend: Ruth, the wife of a former lecturer. Although she is in her seventies she is very much alive and so entertaining when she tells anecdotes about her life which has become quite exciting since she decided lately that her sex life was not over in spite of her husband. So I am really looking forward to hearing about her most recent outrages, as she calls then, with a big and radiant smile.

Sunday, September 18, 2005, 2:30:16 PM- Dear Alex,
it's so nice to have you as my reader. I cannot rival the girl in your lap though, but still .... I listen to classical music often, and to 60s rock. I inherted the vinyls and the old Lenco L833 player from my parents and it's a nice memory of them and of the times when they played the records when I was a child. Unfortunately I play no musical instrument myself, I have made literature and the pen my career. I'd certainly love to listen to your guitar though, it's one of my favourite instruments. Love, Alpina

Sunday, September 18, 2005, 12:21:22 PM- ok, why not?
After only reading all those blogs and having - next to other urges - an urge to write - and time as I am presently enjoying a sabbatical - this is the first attempt to get any reader's attention: Alpina, the Austrian Alpine Flower, reaches out to you - trying to touch your minds and hearts and whatever you like to have touched, guys. Because touching hearts is not easy - whenever I am with a guy he definitely wants to be touched somewhere else. But let's connect anyway ... How are you going to spend the day - I am definitlely lighting a fire in my oven and baking my first pizza of the season to drive the cold out of my house.
