So I woke up around 2:30pm last Teusday, and procrastinated and fucked around til I ended up packing my luggage just in time to jump in the shower and haul ass up to the airport just in time to hop on my 6am plane to Dulles Airport in Washington DC (DC is the main hub for the airline I was on, Independence). I got into Vegas around noon, and ran into a few peeps I know from other conventions and talking on the internet. I basically hung out all day after checking in, just wandering round the mall next door and chilling with some of my Rocky Horror cast who'd showed up. Their reservations didn't start til the next night, so they crashed in my room. My actual room-mate showed up around 1am.. The convention actually started Thurday evening, so we all hung out and wandered around for the day, til it was time to register for the convention and start the official get-together - a dance and a live band. I've been talking to some of these people for years and years, but never met them cuz they live on the other side of the country. It was great... There were room parties all over the place. On Friday, there were some shows by people from across the country, and then a live performance of the sequel to the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Shock Treatment. I was one of the people performing. It's amazing how thirty people from all over the country can come together with barely any rehearsal time, and put on a show as though we've practiced for months. It's a convention tradition, no matter how messed up things are beforehand, the show *always* goes well... Around 2am when the show finished, I announced my intention to go to bed. Four and a half hours later, I finally made it to the ninth floor, but then I got into one of those late-night conversations with my roomie and didn't get to bed til 10am..Saturday there were more shows, merchandise dealers, speakers, and a performance of Rocky Horror, which I was also involved in. Each role is divided up between four or five people, each doing a couple of scenes. So there are thirty people onstage overall. And every one of us did our parts perfectly, as smoothly as if we'd been rehearsing for weeks. On Sunday, we all went to Quark's Bar at the Star Trek Experience in the Hilton. It was wild, I thought we were going to get thrown out.
It was a great weekend..I got to hang out with friends from past conventions, finally met people I've been speaking to online for years, and made new friends from as far away as the UK and Japan... People wonder why we do this kind of thing, why we get into Rocky Horror, but they don't get it - we're family. People who needed places to stay were welcomed wherever there was space for them, people who's rare and expensive costume pieces broke were given free replacements when people had spares...folks from opposite ends of the earth stepped up for people they'd never even met and acted like one family for the four days of the convention. There have been past conventions where folks have lost their plane tickets, and people dug into their own pockets to get them home.
I'm proud to call these people family.
Anyhoo, on the flight home, somewhere along the way I picked up some sort of respiratory infection or cold, and spent a good half-hour in the airport coughing up alien green shit, and coughing so hard I eventually started spitting blood. Although the second leg of my flight home really sucked, once I was back in my own regular climate and on the ground it got alot better, although I still decided to call into work today, just to catch up on my rest, which I'm obviously not doing right now, lol
