Monday, July 31, 2006, 2:02:36 AM- Butterfly
The other day Aps put a beautiful butterfly picture in her blog. I have wanted to share this with her and now that I have broken the code on posting pics in blogs (thanks to MD for his turning on the flashlight and walking me through it) I can share it not only with Aps but with others. I do hope you enjoy. I was with a group going to a restaurant and on the way in saw this butterfly. I rushed back to the car to get my SLR and took the pic.

Thursday, July 27, 2006, 3:09:05 AM- Menu for Saturday 7/29
Entree: Pork Schnitzel, topped with a Corn and Tomato salsa (see note below) Veggies: Snow-peas (the snow peas will be blanched followed by a cold dip) and at time of cooking, warmed with sauteed sliced mushrooms, sliced black olives and garlic. Starch: Zatarains' red beans and rice. Note: I have given the salsa to a few of the readers. I have no idea if any have tried it and if so what their reaction is to it. It is so versatile, goes with beef, pork, chicken or seafood. It evens goes with hotdogs as a relish. Now as to requested pictures. I was going to finally (thanks to mdguy and BB) going to break the code on including pictures. But, April pointed something out today that I hadn't considered so now don't want to post any pictures within the blogs. What I will do is this...if the pictures turn out I will be happy to share them with you individually through email but not a pm.

I still have yet to have my truck repaired. Follow up by my mechanic (who usually is very responsive to me) has been well bleak. So while out doing errands this past Friday I swung by the shop. It was filled with people sitting in the waiting area. I was at the time the only one at the counter and others soon filled in behind me. A tech completes a job and my mechanic then calls the owner up to settle him out and with head looking to the floor goes right back to his office. He leaves the door open so what he is doing can be easily viewed. He is lost on the computer doing research but always seems to find the time to answer the phone. Well after the third phone call which seemed to be his priority..I got my cell phone. Yup I called him on the phone and he instantly picked his up. Hello, this is Mr Mechanic, Hi there this is Tex. Hey Tex how are you doing, what can I do for you....I replied, well I am at the counter and would appreciate the opportunity to talk with you...he swung around in his chair laughing and then came out to the counter to assist me and the dozen other people who showed up behind me. His number is now in my voice dial : - ).

Friday, July 21, 2006, 4:14:15 PM- Let's make a deal : - )
Well actually it is more of a position statement. There is a awful lot that I would like to unload and covering many topics. But suddenly decided not to do so. I am disappointed in myself and some others. I'll spare you the grief and chore of it all. Interestingly this follows a very touching communication I had with someone regarding the blog I wrote about below (a favorite recollection of mine). This person said it brought them to tears because it stimulated their own recollections. I liked that, it meant a lot to me. Another person contacted me and asked more questions in followup. I also liked that. But with all of the various topics I was wanting to write about I have decided no longer to share thoughts or recollection (well at least limit them). I will, in taking the advise of April (in a comment to a blog below), I'll keep it light and brief. I will also continue with the weekly menu and even in taking with suggestons attempt to take pics for posting.

Wednesday, July 19, 2006, 1:25:48 PM- A favorite recollection of mine
Like all or certainly most of us we all of us we have many favorite and special recollections. I give Manic credit for this recollection as she asked in a blog about BBQ music, what would you play and I instantly thought of this night (but it wasn't appropriate for her question). So you are stuck with it now and if you don't want to read it, now would be the time to checkout, lol. Scenario: My older sister, myself and my younger brother. We were at the house we grew up in and the parents were away on a trip so we all had the responsibility to keep the house in order and the neighbors happy (if you get my drift, no parties, lol, no unwanted police visits, lol). Well, it was one of those typical New Jersey (yes I was born and raised in NJ but got to Texas as soon as I could and never plan on leaving it) August nights...hot, humid and loads of fireflies lighting up the backyard (I put that observation in for April : - ) ). We were hot and sticky and bored to tears. But one of us, not sure who said, let's play boche (spelling may be off but bear with me). I mean it was 11 at night...so why not. We got our father's photography lamps, extension cords, and the necessary equipment. We started playing short games so the third would always not be out too long. But my younger brother got an idea...he said...it is too quiet out here. So he put on one of his albums. So here we all, cold beers in hand, photo flood lamps lighting up the field of play, stretched out shadows of us in the light,a balmy night, playing boche ball and listening to..john mayall's turning point album. It was an absolute kick....and I will never forget the laughter and the general joy we shared. For the hour we were out there,we weren't thinking about how hot or humid it was, there would be plenty of time for that later....we were just simply enjoying each others company and that particular moment could never ever be duplicated.

Sunday, July 16, 2006, 3:18:41 PM- Culinary Update
I have cooked the menu for last nights dinner several times. I always put a little variance in the recipe each time just to keep it interesting and last nights mix was absolutely fantastic (if I don't say so myself). Tonight I am going to fry up some chicken and serve it with; sauteed zucchini and asparagus bits along with left over vermicelli in a garlic sauce enhanced by hot cherry peppers and sliced black olives. Even in the heat I always eat my weekend meals outside. Absolutely love it with the mocking birds singing (they can be a pain at times but at dinner time they are like having your own little band playing). Next Saturdays menu I think will be steamed mussels in a hot white wine sauce served over spaghettini enhanced with asparagus bits and panceta. Of course I always reserve the right to completely change the menu. And service is always given to those in bare feet.

Thursday, July 13, 2006, 2:16:01 AM- Saturday 7/15's menu
Well I have thunk it out and here it is the much await (yeah really) menu. Entree: chili-rubbed sirloin steak Veggie: Roasted asparagus Starch: Vermicelli with a garlic sauce. Now I have given, on request mind you, the chili-rubbed steak recipe. I think one of the takers was to have it soon and I haven't seen them or heard anything. I hope it didn't accidently kill them off as I would need to know that ..don't ya think? I do I mean it is only right...if it is bad then why should I experence the same fate? Ok I know I've had this entree atleast a dozen times and love it but still : - )
