Soo I eventually arrive at Hesketh Bank where the farm was, after an hour long journey on a bus from Preston and seemingly, no one was there to greet me at the designated bus stop. No what?? I had no number as I was supposed to be travelling with a chap from Preston, he bailed on us at the very last minute according to the time on an email he sent me that morning (I had already left the house)I dont own a mobile despite protests from friends and family, so no one could contact me and I had no numbers to contact anyone either except the chap who let us down (put all my faith in this chap you see)So, I decided I had not come all this way, to go all the way back again and the buses are only every hour anyways, this was rural you know. So I went off in search of a farm just followed my nose, to ask if they knew of any farmers in the area who were having a field full of Cabbages picked by volunteers..Where was my head at hey?? I head of down this road coming across a guy outside his posh gaff, washing his top of the range merc (2012 reg)I called to him, he had a look of fear!! I cant remember word for word, but I politely explained my situation asking him if I could please use his computer to email this guy down south the guy from feed5k, to then get intouch with this guy Derek who was supposed to be waiting for me at the bus stop. Still with me?? Anyways did that, then hugged the random stranger a thank you he was a really nice guy, no idea who he is or what his name is either lol. I then walked back to the bus stop about twenty minutes later, this Scouser in a box van turns up, shouts oi you Kas?? Yeah man are you Derek?? Yeah man he replies, sorted and in I jump(I must try not to keep saying man)!! Off we went hurtling along, I instantly got a good vibe from Derek sound guy, but then again, I love Scouser's! Turns out we had simply missed eachother at the bus stop earlier. Derek is regional co ordinator for these guys... [url]http://www.fareshare.org.uk/[/url] He had driven over from Manchester and thats where all the Cabbages would be distributed from. Here is a shot of the rows of cabbages..



Long story short, there were only five of us as you can see from this picture I am behind the camera,



Just five,thats all not enough publicity perhaps but free food, is free food... I brought home three massive cabbages, Two savoy Cabbage and one White Cabbage, some Broccoli, some Cauliflower too and not forgetting a snack box from Qatar Airways we had for lunch, not that we stopped for lunch! Fantastic area to be in, to grow stuff, the whole area is Salt Marsh and such a beautiful day too. It was also Southport Airshow on Saturday, we could see contrails to the west (its flat from there to the coast) of something doing loop de loops, then we heard this noise whats that?? Then from out of the west roared in the Red Arrows Aerial display team in a Diamond formation, flying low banking left and soo close to us....Wow!!! I was so busy waving at them like a Loony to get many shots but I got this one as they went into Blackpool airport to land you have to squint to see them!!



Incase you wandered....Gleaning is a very old tradition, practiced as far back as Medieval times [url]http://localfoods.about.com/od/localfoodsglossary/g/Food-Gleaning.htm[/url] My arms, especially my right one, have been so sore from cutting, then stacking Cabbages, I do look like a Russian Shot putter though But I had such an excellent time, next one is two weeks, might get more people interested if I can..

I really have to mention Madame_Bovary's blog of her 'Fucking the UK tour' oh my word, I laughed and cried again, re living it all, I still miss the ickle old lady, the lady had a very profound affect on my life and I love her so much, she is a one off, a very special unique person who I was extremely privileged to spend time with, get to know....I have so much more I want to say, but I have waffled enough for now, so to be continued.. WTF?? Out of the ground to donate to those that do want them, mostly families below the breadline in Manchester or Liverpool but they send stuff all round the UK I am thinking ohh Cabbage soup, Cabbage curry, stuffed steamed Cabbage leaves...I will post some pictures of my day...

I am feeling more optimistic more positive of late, trying to get myself in a happy place before the onset of shorter days, longer nights, the cold nasty Autumn and Winter weather sets in.
