Girlfriend decided to go out and look at houses for me last week. She wanted me to look at a couple, so I left here early Saturday. Stop by the place that she wanted me to see and OMG! Todays modular homes are a far cry from the mobile homes of the 70's and 80's. The display home I looked at (and fell in love with) is built just like a normal house...except it can be delivered in two halves and ready in a week instead of months of on site construction. Paperwork for the mortgage is already filled out...just need the property deed to get things started!

I left work at 3:00 this morning; got home around 3:30. The furry minions wanted out, so I let them out the back to go run in the yard. Go back in to get cookies for the outside hound, walk back out on the porch....and here's where the fun began. I was about to walk down the steps when Lunna (my 60 lb. female black lab) decided that she wanted to go chase the house hounds around the yard. 60 lbs of dog trying to occupy the same space as me...not good. She catches me in mid step and throws me off balance. I miss the two bottom steps, land on my right foot and go ass backwards on the ground. I did manage to partially catch myself with my right arm...big mistake. I'm now laying on the ground, my right leg twisted under my ass and my left arm squarely planted in a mud puddle left from the previous days rain. Got up, limped back in the house, changed out of my muddy work clothes and sat back with a drink. Ok, it doesn't hurt that bad. 10am, one of the dogs jumps on the bed and hits my leg....instant awake! My ankle at this point is blue/black and about the size of a baseball. Time to see how bad I've fucked myself up. After a very interesting drive (you try driving with what feels like a broken ankle!) and several x-rays, the doc at the ER says it's just sprained, my shoulder is dislocated and all they can do is put a brace on the ankle and a sling on my arm. Didn't even get a 'scrip for decent pain meds or muscle relaxers...he prescribed naproxen (Aleve) and Tramadol, which I have here already. I did prove that you can wear a shoe over the ankle brace...and i got a nice new set of crutches!

I swear, the dogs have a life insurance policy on me and they're trying to collect!

One of my cousins from up north called last week. They have finally realized that owning property out of state is a pain in the ass. To make a long story short, they want to sell off their dads property here and sell off their interest in granddads estate. The lawyers have communicated with each other, I met with my lawyer earlier and by next week I will have a clear deed to 10 acres of property. Time to start planning a new house....and taking a bulldozer to this one!

Ah, the joys of being a small-scale animal rescuer. A rescue group in Alabama contacted my girlfriend yesterday about taking on a puppy. They had pulled mom and a litter of pups from a shelter; most of the pups were adopted and mom got adopted yesterday. They were left with one puppy who just happens to be the runt. Knowing my girlfriend can't resist, they asked her to take the remaining pup. He's 9 weeks old but only weighs 2 lbs....definitely runt when you consider his mom is half American Pit Bull Terrier, half Bull Mastiff. She agreed, so next weekend the rescue owner is taking a road trip from Alabama to bring us a new pup and to meet our crowd in person. Folks, meet Igor....
