I'm not sure if it's because the general mood is to eat healthy or the loss of small 'Mom & Pop' enterprises, but you can't seem to find small candy stores any more. As a kid, I remember two candy stores in my old neighborhood. They had candy bars, penny candy, cold soda pop and small bags of chips. When you went to town, stores like Woolworth's and Kresge's (the forunner of K Mart) had candy you could buy by the pound: chocolates (like 'stars' and chocolate drops), jelly beans and other forms of candy you couldn't buy close to home. Lately I've been craving bon bons & coconut filled chocolate drops. An internet search has dampened that desire. At a bare minimum, simple chocolate drops with vanilla filling goes for $6.00 a pound. Bon bons and coconut filled chocolate drops are a minimum $15.00 a pound. I guess I'll have to be content eating Mounds bars. Oh, for a time machine!  | ||||||
