Well, fate sometimes lends a helping hand... I was in doubt about which candidate to choose for the translator position, and one of the two best candidates dropped out, so that was easy The remaining candidate starts in two weeks, loads to prepare, such as how to be a boss... And one of my photos was published in a book! Not a real professional book, more of a collection of the best pictures published by an internet forum, but still cool

Six candidate translators, 2 definitely out of the running, 1 doubtful, and three good candidates but with COMPLETELY different characters and profiles. *sigh* I can't choose...

At lunch I once ate some leftovers from the previous dinner, including Brussels sprouts. A colleague says "Oh, I wouldn't have taken you for someone who likes sprouts" Today I talked about the dinner party I organised last Saturday, a pretty elaborate menu. The same colleague says: "Oh, I wouldn't have thought you were that culinary a person" Well, I guess I'm supposed to take that as "Oh, I thought fat people didn't eat veggies and only bought take-away junk food"? Some people... Btw, the menu last Saturday was: Starter/hors d'oeuvres: cebiche - salmon mousse and lumpfish caviar on toast - devilled crab cakes (cajun) Entree: sweet and sour porc with chocolate, red wine vinegar, pine nuts and raisins Dessert: (my old favorite) pecan and almond pie And I'm having some friends over next Saturday too, now to figure out another menu...

Saturday, December 5, 2009, 4:25:48 PM- My kingdom for some heat
If I was ever convinced of having to insulate our roof, it's now... It's 10 degrees outside (not excessively cold) but I'm freezing. The living room is okay, but our second floor (bedrooms, bathroom, desks) is a bit "nippy", all the heat is escaping through the roof. Coupled with a bathroom without a bathtub (I really don't like showers), I'm actually considering going to a sauna/spa! Me, who hates heat... And as I'm also not so fond of showing skin in public, that leaves only private saunas. Coincidence has it that there's a sauna just a few blocks away Downside is that it costs around 100 euros/2 hours/2 people... For something I'm not even sure I'll like (I've never been to a sauna, hot tubs/jacuzzis I love though)... That reminds me, I REALLY need to find my gloves in what's left of our moving boxes, I spent 25 minutes waiting for a bus yesterday and my fingers were not grateful

Friday, November 27, 2009, 5:40:36 AM- The groove
A new employee joined our management team, she seems very dynamic, open, and fun to work with. A joy compared to some others. Speaking of "some others", a guy at work who is usually so difficult to work with (rarely replies to my e-mails, needs to regularly be reminded of his tasks and pushed) surprised me yesterday by helping me out without me even asking anything. Miracles And yesterday, after my two previous attempts at Start-to-Run lesson 17 had failed, I practically "flew" through it: I even ran longer than I should have (the last part should have been 7 minutes of running, which was my personal best, but I ran for 14 minutes without stopping). Let's hope it continues this way next time, lol. And this afternoon I'm going to leave work early at 2PM, bf needs new glasses, and I need/want new shoes. Yay, spending money, lol.

Thursday, November 26, 2009, 6:02:32 AM- Bleh III: the backlog ;-)
The exam went well, I thought, but I'm not sure how they'll be grading... In the meantime I don't know what to do first at work, which inevitably results in my not doing much of anything I have to start correcting written tests, for the translator we'll be hiring, 13 candidates, and probably 6 handwritten pages per candidate... *sigh* And I have to be careful, because I'll be the one who'll have to pick up the pieces if we hire someone wrong for the job...

Monday, November 23, 2009, 5:43:53 PM- Bleh: the sequel
It is pouring down so hard, the street almost looks like a river, and a minute ago I couldn't even see anything through the window. Well, I'm very glad we live on top of a slight hill and we don't have a basement, so no risk of flooding... On a side note: the studies are advancing, but slowly...

It's mid morning, the weather is dismal, dark and depressing, I'm cold, I have no motivation to study despite the exam being tomorrow and the fact that I still have tons of documentation to get through. Other than that, everything's great
