Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 5:02:10 PM- Living in a cave
I knew I lived in a cave! I had heard of Romen noodle soups before, but thought that it was a great invention to take on long hikes because of the weight of food. Someone had mentioned they had eaten them and enjoyed them, so a box (not a pack) of them was picked up a while back. A few days later, a quick meal was needed and that's what I served. My first time, I thought: "OK, not a gourmet meal, but serves the purpose if you've been hiking for eight hours and are tired. Filling, more or less tasty, warm and easy to fix" I think that's when I first heard someone calling it "Broke food." The second time I used the noodles, I added good meatballs and served toasted bread with it. Forwarding a few months, I have often passed the big box of Romen noodles and asked myself when the hell are we going to use all that? Well, when the dinner didn't come together the other day (don't ask); it was a good opportunity for the noodles to shine once again. Since there was plenty of left overs, this morning I had the leftover -now a bit-soggy noodles and meatballs- for brunch . I added some grated parmessan and made the comment: "Umm, that's pretty good!" The responding comment was again: "Broke food." OK. I do remember eating corn starch cooked with milk, sugar and a banana or apple thrown in for breakfast because there was no money to buy other food when I was a kid. And true, there were two small meatballs in my brunch this morning. And there's food in the freezer. So I am doing much better in the years since. But it does remind me that here, in the United States, there are kids and grown-ups whose supper tonight will be Romen noodles. No meatballs included.

Monday, April 16, 2012, 9:52:42 PM- OK!
Either I have to start working on filing my tax return earlier, or quit buying the do-your-tax software in January. For three months it's been sitting on the desk nagging at me every couple of days. - Worse than a pet saying: "Feed ME!" or a w..... Oooops, nope, not going there.

Sunday, March 4, 2012, 8:36:06 PM- Naked
Naked is the only way I should eat a pomegranate. Otherwise, as I just found out, I get stains all over my clothes. What?!? And you thought I have a dirty mind?

Tuesday, February 14, 2012, 7:09:22 PM-
Happy Valentine! Before we get into a non-pillow fight or resentment feelings about a day that has been promoted into a "couples" day, let us remember that is is a 'promoted' day encouraged by candy-makers, restauranteers, sexy-clothing makers and others that haven't given a shit about those who don't have partner as such (willingly or unwilling) or have the wrong partner. There are more "single" humans than ever before. There are also parts of "couples" that take delight in pointing out: "I've got mine." - No matter how miserable one or the other partner is. Yes, it's nice to be in a relationship. - Usually. But not because someone designated a date to be so. Every day , any day, can be one in which one can feel they can say: "I'm glad to be part of your world and you part of mine." And it doesn't have to be the fourteen of February. Ideally, it would be every day. Enjoy the day, evening and night!

Saturday, February 11, 2012, 9:12:02 PM- That damned "enter" key
I know, it's not the key's fault. But sometimes, after writing something and hitting the enter key to activate it and send a message, I wish the "enter" or "return" key on a keyboard had a macro requiring me to hit it twice before sending. Oh wait, it does! It's called ME!

Saturday, February 4, 2012, 11:17:39 PM- Have you ever?
Have you ever: Shopped for a tool for a one-time use and decided on the cheaper model only to find it is a good-quality model that you've used again and again? Ever driven through a heavy storm with no apparent end only to turn a curve to find clear skies and a beautiful rainbow? After making your leave, expecting only a smile, been grabbed by the arm and taken down the hall for the best sex you'll remember for a long time? Enjoy it and cherish it! You never know when it may happen again. It's a better feeling than winning the lottery.

Almost decided to get out and go see the Harlem Globetrotters. But it's cold out and we would be in line for about an hour getting the high-priced tickets. I talked myself out of it. The team can not only play great basketball, they also put on a heck of a show, suitable for kids and the young at heart alike. It's been years since I saw them play and act up. Probably missing a great show, but right now I'd rather stay warm than look down at a game with binoculars.

Sunday, January 15, 2012, 6:51:00 AM- Not quite there yet
Pasta, carbonara style for dinner tonight. Very good, but not quite as good as the favorite Italian restaurant. I'll keep working on it. There's still some panchetta and a s..it-load of ham left in the fridge. I will have to replace the half and half though.
