Guest are sacred to me in my house. One tries to make them feel at home, and tries to be always aware of their needs and wants, and hopes they will feel like returning. They, in turn (usually) attempt to behave and make you feel glad they took the time to visit you. I do try to fix, at least a good meal. Been told that I do and that I excel. Thank you! It makes no sense to fix lamb chops, mashed potatoes and green beans and sliced almonds, a decent salad and bread with excellent wine and have it ruined by said guest expounding on heard-before-opinions and interrupting (something I detest) the host, and (almost) insulting others. That makes for a fucking bore. A bore is a big, big, turn-off at any table. A female bore is unusually noted. Bores of any type are unacceptable in my table. I don’t enjoy being a hypocrite. Yet one has to be sometimes lest I start tapping my wine glass and saying: “Excuse me!” Best just to hope the said guest is not invited back regardless of the circumstances. Yes, I am pissed and working on my third glass of wine. They are (hopefully) leaving tomorrow. I will miss their friendship. He will probably not be alive by the time for their next visit, and I will probably not be inviting her back. Sorry for the vent. But there are limits!

It had been so long since I uploaded a picture here that I've forgotten how to. So I went to the forum/ help/help thread to find an answer. On a thread by LHS (May she be OK, wherever she is) I found:... Well, not my answer yet, but a beautiful example of what the forums used to be like and why I became a Life Member. The exchange made me smile. If you get the chance, take a look at it.

Took your advise and didn't make appointment. Good thing too because though I called for days trying to change it, no one ever answered or allowed me to leave a message. They've been closed all the time! But being a government office they hid the "special announcements" section so well, it took me until the day before the appointment to go through enough web pages to find it. Hell, blame me, I don't care. My ass and car are still in one piece.

OK, so you guys in the North, used to a few inches of snow (- All right, this year a few feet of snow – will call me a wuss because I’m talking about an inch of ice. But down here in the land of yahoos, that inch will cause more accidents and damage than the six inches you guys deal with as a matter of course. Yep, this year everyone in the states has probably had more snow than they like to shovel. But here where a snow plow makes the news because it’s a rare animal – as in: there ain’t none, - snow and ice causes havoc for adults and happiness in kids. We’ve already had our five inches of snow this month. Now the weather-guessers are saying rain, then sleet and ice will grace our lawns and roads and bring happiness to new car dealers, car body-workers and hospitals in the area. My personal bad news is that I might have to venture out in that stuff this time. No watching on the TV the Bubba Andretti skill demonstration as to how best to hit the fire hydrants and other unlucky recipients of his car paint samples on their vehicle. This time I might have to be present …live. Aw damn, why haven’t I changed the appointment yet? And why did I ever get rid of those car snow chains? Oh yeah, they wouldn’t fit this car anyway.

Saturday, November 6, 2010, 10:21:52 PM- It was a Great Day
It's been a while since I blogged here. Got to see and spend a very pleasant afternoon and evening with two (young) old friends that I met here. Two of us caught up on some events, visited, drank wine as we waited for the other; who was handed a cold beer as she came up the walk. The champagne I had saved for special occasions was opened and poured, and dinner was served by us. Hopefully they will agree we had a great time. I know we did.

...To me. I'm celebrating my birthday today, and hoping that everyone will have a very good Holiday Season. Yep, I'm officially an Old Fart, (grin), and enjoying Life more than ever. To the religious nut that still sends me PMs under fake names and continues to fight imaginary battles: Go fuck yourself, get a life asshole. I'll still be here long after you're gone. But to my Friends here, and everyone else, my wishes for a Wonderful Christmas. I'm off to the warm beaches of the Caribbean. Have fun!
