I'm gonna say the turn of the century,most stuff after 2000 just doesn't do it for me. The only genre that seems to be turning out anything credible is rock, credible, but no real classics.
Joking about Cher but on a recent Rick Beato show with Billy Corgan they discussed Auto-Tune and software progam Pro Tools that has destroyed music and now there is AI that writes songs.
Having enjoyed most all of 80s music back in the day I'd say it was right after Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit, when grunge happened and rap became very dark. Generalising, but yeah.
There is still some incredible music out there. You just have to want to search for it. Problem is the majority of people only consume music in sound bites over their phone.
There was a time when Elvis gyrating his hips was going to destroy civilization as we knew it. I’ll admit I still mostly listen to stuff from high school, 70’s rock or older.
