When did music become so bad?

1998 when Cher's Believe was the first song to use Auto-Tune.

🤣 I was going to say what do you have against auto tune! 😆😆

I'm gonna say the turn of the century, most stuff after 2000 just doesn't do it for me. The only genre that seems to be turning out anything credible is rock, credible, but no real classics.

Joking about Cher but on a recent Rick Beato show with Billy Corgan they discussed Auto-Tune and software progam Pro Tools that has destroyed music and now there is AI that writes songs.

I agree regarding Auto-Tune. I hate it.

Having enjoyed most all of 80s music back in the day I'd say it was right after Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit, when grunge happened and rap became very dark. Generalising, but yeah. tongue

I remember discovering rap in '79 with Sugarhill Gang's ''Rapper's Delight''. Very upbeat and fun.

I guess it depends on what you listen to. Most of what I listen to will never be heard on the radio or make it on to charts.

That's the thing. Plenty of great music but now rarely it become chart topper, mainstream.

I hope most of the artist I like never get any bigger than they are now.

I agree with Paramour .. when producers started using beat detector and auto tune... we lost all feeling in music

It hasn't.

There is still some incredible music out there. You just have to want to search for it. Problem is the majority of people only consume music in sound bites over their phone.

I still buy music mags like Mojo, Rock Candy, and Rock & Folk, discovering new artists all the time, as well as with Spotify.

Some amazing music still being made, it just doesn't get played on the radio. FM is much more formatted and less free-form as it used to be.

I remember older people saying the same thing about the music I grew up listening to.

There was a time when Elvis gyrating his hips was going to destroy civilization as we knew it. I’ll admit I still mostly listen to stuff from high school, 70’s rock or older.
