Laid-back, easy going guy until my passions are aroused. I've been here 3 other times... I keep trying to get it right, I guess. lol

I read today that Kmart is down to 3 stores in the U.S. now. They join Sears and Penny's as stores of my youth passing out of existence. As the old saying goes, nothing lasts forever. *** Saturday I went to Walmart to grocery shop, since it's only 5 minutes from where I live. Prices are up. I saw on the morning news that inflation is up 8% in the last year and it shows: My usual staples were up, which I understand, but I drew the line at the cost of a gallon of milk - $3.91 a gallon? No. So I instead drove back to the local Payless store (an offshoot of Kroger) close by my place. Their prices are a little bit higher on the average, BUT a gallon of milk is still pretty low - $2.19 a gallon. AND their shelves, unlike Walmart, are full. I'll pay a little more when I have a better selection. ~

Sunday, April 10, 2022, 6:22:59 PM- Apples
Pineapple? Originally from Brazil and Paraguay. Not introduced to Hawaii until the 1700s. Pineapple was the original name for the pinecone. Way back in the 14th century, botanists often called foreign fuits or vegetables apple, like a tomato was a 'love apple'. A potato was an 'earth apple' and a papaya was a 'custard apple'. One of the first writings of the pineapple was by English expolrer Captain John Smith in 1624, who thought it resembled a pine cone and using the at the time use of a foreign fruit an apple. So there ya go. That's why a pineapple is called a pineapple. Just don't get me started on where the name banana comes from. ~

Sunday, April 10, 2022, 12:52:22 AM- Grandpa's song
As a kid, I once heard my grandpa sing in the shower: "Oh, I love to go swimmin', with bow-legged women and swim between their legs, swim between their legs." I asked my dad what that meant and he tried to keep a smile from his face and told me it was a game adults play. I just shook my head and walked away. Years later, I see a M*A*S*H rerun and Col. Potter was singing that song in the shower. The memory of my grandpa singing the same song made me smile. ~

Thursday, April 7, 2022, 7:05:15 PM- Rat
I tattled on a neighbor today. I live in one of two buildings in a complex of apartments. Parking can be tricky sometimes. Where I used to park, someone parked their car there months ago. It hasn't moved since. It even has a flat tire, also for months. So today I contacted the landlord's office and asked if the car belonged to a tenant or not. It is being checked out. I normally don't rat people out, but one way or another that person is being irresponsible. We'll find out. ~

Wednesday, April 6, 2022, 6:09:43 PM- A little bit frustrating
I recently came into contact (after 43 years) with the love of my life (from my youth) on Facebook. We caught up on a few things, generally speaking. She asked me a LOT of questions about my life since we last knew each other and I complied truthfully. BUT When I asked her about specifics, she said she wasn't ready to discuss them yet, promising to do so at a later time. I know that a few things she's not ready to discuss yet pertain to me. I could have pointed out that I have told her everything about my past and that these confessions are part of a two way street, but I didn't. I know that she became quite ill, close to a nervous breakdown after her husband divorced her, so I'm not pushing anything. Patience, which I was almost devoid of in my younger years, is now my ally. All things come to those who are willing to wait. ~

Yesterday was painful. The weather brought me a powerful sinus headache that I didn't get over until the evening. It was hard going through the paces, but once again I have endured. Today I feel great. Sometimes you just have to ride it out to get to the other side. ~
